As you can see,

the fabulous Oppo BDP-83 unit as the digital transport centerpiece of your HT

Our custom designed and in house modified version of this player will include
all mods relevant to get the highest quality possible digital signals from this
unit. Some of you may ask "I thought digital was digital and all the same?". This
is not the case in many ways. First is the idea that all video decoders are the
same when outputting source direct video such as the Oppo, this could not be
further from the truth. Decoders vary wildly in quality between manufactures and
players. The video decoder in the Oppo BDP-83 is from a manufacturer that we
here at Custom HT have always claimed is the best in the world, they
consistently deliver the sharpest cleanest images out there, and most
importantly their decoders are from defects like the infamous chroma upsampling
bug that causes streaky and splotchy colors, the Oppo decoder is 100% free of the CUE in
both DVD, Blu-Ray and media player modes.
I want to make it known that we
do not believe in all these fancy overpriced audiophile type upgrades here at
Custom HT, only physically sound real world improvements that are assured to
make a difference. Let us explain the mods and performance increases that are
done to the Oppo BDP-83 that ultimately enable it to become the Oppo BDP-83CHT
"Digital Transport Edition". The first thing that we have done is a simple
redesign on the power supply, this redesign on the PS includes a high-end
toroidal transformer installed inside the unit. The toroidal transformer is
wired in a balanced output configuration, delivering the DC supply that feeds
the decoders and digital clock generator with the absolute cleanest power
possible. The transformer and PS redesign adds roughly 4 pounds to the units
weight, but this player is built like nothing you have ever seen from Oppo, it
has a super high-end build quality. With the upgraded power supply as the basis
we move on to the most important mod we have done on this unit. We have removed the
standard low quality clock generator crystal and installed a high-end version
with dedicated power supply. What this mod does it replace the standard clock
with a super clean clock that is nearly 100% free of jitter. This effects every
single process in the unit from the optical drive to the coaxial digital audio
output and the HDMI output. The new clock is 100% stable and free of jitter. This is the most
important thing one can do for a digital transport, and with the new clean and
stable clock as the reference the entire unit performs, looks and sounds better
than ever before. Your digital audio signals are transferred with less jitter,
less jitter is introduced into the video decoder, the reader drive reads better
with less errors. All around system performance and quality is improved with the
newly installed clock. After the clock mod is completed we move to the next
stage. Here we disable and remove the entire analog audio section and cap off
the rear audio connectors as to eliminate any EMI/RFI interference entering the
unit from the analog audio section and its connectors. Being this is a digital
transport, there is no need for the analog audio section and removing it removes
another possible source for interference inside the unit. Finally we add 100%
copper shielding to the entire case hood, this acts as a barrier for stopping
all outside interference from entering the unit. Those of you that have owned
high-end audiophile quality gear will notice that all those pieces have a
complete copper shield above the unit inside the case. Copper deflects
interference to a amazing degree.
With this complete mod package of
simple real world improvements we would place this new player up against any
digital transport in the world at any price. The Oppo BDP-83CHT "Digital
Transport Edition" will actually replace 2 or 3 of those expensive transports
and many of our customers will actually come out making a few bucks after
selling their multiple units and purchasing this all in one no compromise
package.
